Fr. Bill’s CD Lyrics

Paintbrush in the Green : Paintbrush in the Green

(On my first trip to Ireland in August 2003, I was out for a walk in Dublin on the grounds of All Hallows College. Had my tape recorder in my backpack, and camera. As I kept stopping to take photographs, I recalled that one of my favorite Christian songwriters Rich Mullins wrote some great songs while in Ireland. I simply asked “Lord, what kind of song should I write my first time here?” and this whole thing came out.)

From the morning of creation,
when day one had broken light
To this moment, at this station,
God’s hand carries us to the heights
Blooming fields of awe and wonder,
O what miracles we have seen
Since the day that the Lord God
dipped His PAINTBRUSH IN THE GREEN!

Pity those who cloud their conscience
Only themselves they seek to please
Gathering things, just earthly treasures
Never time to get on their knees
Thank we God for Ireland's beauty
and its shrine to the Holy Queen
And the day that the Lord God
dipped His PAINTBRUSH IN THE GREEN!!

Green…blessed fields of clover,
Green…bringing life to the spring
Green…wings of Irish angels.
Ever-green…forever more I’ll sing!

God sure knew what He was makin’
Chose the color of the "Emerald Isle"
Breathless vistas for the takin’
Irish wit, guaranteeing a smile
So when you see an eye that twinkles,
There’s no guessing where they have been.
’Tis the land where the Lord God
dipped His PAINTBRUSH IN THE GREEN,
’tis the land where the Lord God
dipped His PAINTBRUSH IN THE GREEN!!!
