Fr. Bill’s CD Lyrics

Priest of Mine: Joseph’s Tears

Wash us, O Lord, in Joseph’s tears…
Cleansing rain from a heart made pure…
Rejected by his very own, blinded by green eyes
God’s delivered faithful son heard a starving nation’s cries

God most holy, worshipped by the Patriarchs
Lover of the lowly, image for sin-blurred eyes
Saving all your servants, help them to recognize
Your holy presence…in disguise!

So, wash us, O Lord, in Joseph’s tears…
See God write an icon of freedom from our lies
And we are saved, sanctified for ministry in Christ
Expiated by His death, now our prayers like incense rise

When betrayal brings us a pain we can’t conceive
Persecution kills when it’s from our own
Egypt gives us “desert days”—struggle for death to rise
Sweet Jesus, pour Mercy out from our eyes!

Then wash us, O Lord, in your own tears, we pray!
Healing rain that makes us whole again
Weeping eyes then come to see—In Christ the slave set free…
Bitter stains now sent as far as East from West can be!

Sweet Lord Jesus, you pour out your priesthood
But your apostles, we have all made you weep
When we deny our brotherhood, fraternity is tossed
We stand back, numb, ’til you pay the cost…

So, send us, O Lord, the gift of holy tears, we pray
As we confess send bitterness far from our souls
May we come as brother who are open and contrite
And, like Joseph, reconcile…in Mercy’s multi-colored light

So, wash us, O Lord in Joseph’s tears!
